About the Park

In 1930, when Ludwig Torzewski first saw Pero Lake in its natural setting, he envisioned a park there. Three years later he bought the property.

In 1981 he donated 69 acres of his land on Pero Lake to Lapeer County for a county park.

The park was developed with the support of the U.S. Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners, the Lapeer Lions Club, and various private and public donations of goods and services

In 1985 the park was dedicated to Ludwig and Frances Torzewski. Their contribution brings happiness to thousands of park visitors each year.
